Historic Industrial Retrofit Germany

Historic Industrial Retrofit Germany

Chemnitz, Saxony, Germany

380㎡

VIG:4TL+V+4TL

Project introduction

A historic industrial building in Chemnitz, Saxony, Germany, originally built in 1865, was renovated as part of an adaptive reuse and heritage-sensitive upgrade. The project demonstrates the suitability of vacuum glazing for retrofit applications where improved thermal performance must be achieved without materially altering the original architectural character.

This project is a strong reference point for one of the most commercially relevant VIG application scenarios in Europe:

using ultra-thin high-performance glazing to upgrade historic buildings without replacing the original window structure.

It shows how vacuum glazing can help balance three competing project requirements:

  • Preservation of architectural character
  • Improved thermal performance
  • Practical retrofit execution
